Getting creative with your SPCA support!

The SPCA of Tompkins County is a 501c3 not for profit Animal Welfare Organization. We rely on the generosity of our community to make our work possible. Whether you attend an event, are a regular supporter, volunteer at the shelter, or adopt one of our animals YOU are helping to keep Tompkins County one of the safest places in the country for homeless animals.

Volunteer Opportunities

One of the most popular ways our local community helps our shelter is by volunteering.

Cans for Causes

Through our local partnership with K&H Redemption you can drop off your cans and bottles for deposit and they will directly benefit the SPCA! You can either bring your cans and bottles to our Pet Adoption Center on Hanshaw Rd and place them in our Cans for Causes Shed at the front entrance OR bring them directly to K&H Redemption located at 900 West State St in downtown Ithaca and ask that they be donated to the SPCA! These cans and bottles add up fast and generate approximately $350 a month for the SPCA.

Amazon Smile

Whether you are purchasing supplies for the SPCA’s Urgent Needs list, buying holiday or birthday presents for loved ones, or just treating yourself to something special, please use the Amazon Smile website and select the SPCA of Tompkins County as your charity of choice. Amazon will donate an additional .05% of eligible purchases to the SPCA!

Donating your Car

Interested in donating your car for charity? The SPCA often needs a reliable SUV, Crossover, or Minivan for transporting supplies and animals around town. If you have a vehicle you think that may be of use to us, please contact us at gifts@spcaonline.com to discuss donating it.

Even if we can’t use your vehicle, you can still donate the proceeds of your car or truck to the shelter.

Older cars that require too much money to fix and are being “junked” can be done locally at the scrapyard of your choice and the proceeds of the scrap can be given to the SPCA as a donation.

Cars that are being resold for charity can be done through an organization called (you guessed it) Vehicles for Charity! You can visit www.vehiclesforcharity.org or call 1-866-628-CARS for more information and to request that the proceeds from the sale of your used vehicle be directed to the SPCA of Tompkins County.

Charitable Giving Websites

There are also a host of other businesses, websites, and mobile apps that allow you to select and make donations directly to the SPCA of Tompkins County. Some of them are:

  • Bissell - Donates a percentage of vacuum purchases or goods to the animal shelter of your choice
  • Woof Trax - Donates monies per miles walked using their Walk for a Dog mobile app to the animal shelter of your choice.
  • I DO Foundation - Donates money in lieu of gifts for those who use the website as a wedding registry.
  • I GIVE - When you shop through IGive, hundreds of online retailers, including Petco, Target, and others, will donate part of your sale price to the organization of your choice. www.igive.com
